Living Water

My wife and I were out this past weekend to this great bookstore, Good Steward Books (shameless plug). When lo and behold I came across Living Water Studies in John 4 by Martin Lloyd Jones! It was half off of the cover price to boot, book clearing houses are great!! It truly was a great find, I'm glad that yet another great book found me!
This excerpt is taken from the last chapter "More Than Conquers" It seemed exceptionally appropriate.

So the more you are afflicted and tried by things that happen to you from the outside and the malice of men, the more it drives you to realize that you do not belong to this world, that you are bigger than it, that you belong to Christ, you belong to heaven, you belong to glory—“a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

The trouble with all of us is that we think so little about that glory; we are looking so much at the outside, at the seen, the visible, that we do not gaze upon the unseen, the eternal, the glorious, which God in Christ is preparing for us. We do not heed the exhortation of Paul to the Colossians: “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Col. 3:2). So when afflictions and trials come, they force us to do what we had foolishly not been doing. We cannot enjoy the outside because it is all against us at the moment, and that, therefore, reminds us of the inside, the unseen, the eternal, the spiritual. And the moment we begin to think in that way, we are immune to what happens outside. This builds up, and we see the eternal more and more gloriously, and we know we are going on to it. So even if they kill us, what have they done? They have simply introduced us to that glory at an earlier point than we had expected. “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

Now, my dear friends, it is the people who give this impression who conquer the world. These are the people who act as magnets, drawing others to the Lord Jesus Christ (p. 725).
